About the Test

What is the Methylation Panel Test?

The Methylation Panel Test from Genova Diagnostics offers important insights into the biochemical methylation pathway. By measuring methylation metabolites and genetic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), the test can uncover a patient's nutritional support needs, such as amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.

What is Methylation?

Methylation is a chemical process that constantly occurs in every cell of the body. Methyl groups are needed to create DNA and RNA, regulate gene expression, help regulate mood, detoxify hormones, produce energy, and promote healthy aging.

For a correct methylation process, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from the diet are needed.

Genetic factors and oxidative stressors may also affect how well this pathway works.

Which Patients is the Methylation Panel Best Used For?

There is a variety of symptoms associated with methylation defects. The methylation Panel can offer crucial insight into patients with:

  • Cancer risk
  • Questionable detoxification (patients under hormone therapy, alcohol consumption, or toxin exposure)
  • Psychiatric and mood disorders (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, ADHD)
  • Cognitive decline
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Neurologic disorders

What Does Methylation Panel Test Measure?

The Methylation Panel can reveal the need for nutritional support. The results of the test can help shape dietary and nutrition treatment plans. Knowing genetic predispositions can help focus supplementation on overriding potential methylation defects.

Most analytes in the test are measured utilizing the highly sensitive Liquid. Chromatography coupled with tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

Glutathione is measured using a colorimetric assay developed for an automated chemistry platform. The genomic SNPs are an add-on, not part of the regular test

What Type of Sample is Needed to Complete the Methylation Panel test?

A blood and a buccal swab are required for the Methylation Panel test. The analysis involves the measurement of methylation metabolites in the plasma and genetic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the buccal swab sample.

To facilitate the interpretation of the report, results are shown in a methylation pathway graphic providing a clear understanding of the biochemistry involved.

*This test cannot be ordered for patients under two years of age.

About the Test

The Methylation Panel is designed to offer insight into the critical biochemical methylation pathway. It can uncover a patient's nutritional support needs (such as amino acids, vitamins, and minerals) by measuring methylation metabolites in plasma. This test cannot be ordered for patients under two years of age. YOU MUST ORDER THE METHYLATION GENOMICS ADD-ON SEPARATELY.
