Aerodiagnostics partners with equipment manufacturers and clinicians worldwide to innovate approaches to breath testing for gastrointestinal disorders with a focus on accuracy, convenience, and turn-around time.

Their Scientific Approach and Testing Standards

The Science Behind Breath Testing for Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth and Fructose, Lactose and Sucrose Malabsorption

Hydrogen and methane breath tests offer a non-invasive method to diagnose digestive issues linked to bacterial fermentation of carbohydrates, indicating conditions like small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and carbohydrate malabsorption.

These tests measure hydrogen and methane gasses produced by bacteria in the digestive system, which are reabsorbed into the bloodstream and exhaled. By analyzing these gasses in breath samples, healthcare providers can detect abnormal bacterial activity in the gastrointestinal tract and effectively diagnose related disorders.

Scientific Approach and Innovations in Testing

Aerodiagnostics LLC offers innovative breath tests for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and Lactose, Fructose, and Sucrose intolerances.

Their breath tests utilize advanced, non-invasive Hydrogen & Methane devices and a proprietary analysis designed to reduce false reports often associated with traditional blood tests or hydrogen-only breath tests.

These diagnostic tools feature a CO2 correction factor to enhance accuracy and minimize errors due to improper sample collection.

Their EasySampler™ Breath Collection Kit provides a simple, at-home solution for breath sample collection. Patients can easily collect and mail their samples to Aerodiagnostics, LLC at their convenience.

This patented kit offers flexibility and ease, allowing patients to conduct tests wherever and whenever they prefer, much to the satisfaction of both patients and healthcare providers.

Quality Assurance

At Aerodiagnostics LLC, quality assurance is an essential part of the culture. The company employs a comprehensive approach to ensure that every test conducted meets the highest standards of accuracy and reliability.

This includes regular calibration of equipment, meticulous training of laboratory personnel, and strict adherence to testing protocols.

They also submit their own tests to blind proficiency tests external to Aerodiagnostics,LLC to provide quality checks and therefore, assurances of test accuracy as well as to reduce the risk of potential variations in shipping and environmental influences.

Popular Tests Offered by Aerodiagnostics LLC

Aerodiagnostics LLC offers a variety of specialized diagnostic tests to detect and manage gastrointestinal disorders.

SIBO Breath Test - No Substrate

The SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) Breath Test - No Substrate is used to detect the presence of excessive bacteria in the small intestine—a condition that can lead to various uncomfortable symptoms such as nausea, bloating, vomiting, and malnutrition.

This test measures the hydrogen and methane gasses produced by bacteria in the small intestine.

Patients are required to obtain a lactulose substrate separately, as this test does not include one. If a healthcare provider is unable to prescribe lactulose, Aerodiagnostics recommends opting for the SIBO Breath Test with a glucose substrate.

SIBO Breath Test - Glucose

Similar to its counterpart, the SIBO Breath Test - Glucose is designed to identify bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. However, this version of the test includes a glucose substrate which can sometimes be more readily prescribed.

The presence of glucose helps facilitate the detection of hydrogen and methane gasses produced by bacteria in response to a glucose substrate.

Lactose Intolerance Breath Test

The Lactose Intolerance Breath Test is used to identify individuals who are unable to digest lactose, the primary sugar found in dairy products. Patients who lack the enzyme lactase exhibit symptoms like gas, bloating, and diarrhea after consuming dairy.

The presence of elevated hydrogen levels in the breath after lactose ingestion can confirm lactose intolerance, enabling patients to make necessary dietary adjustments.

Furthermore, lactose malabsorption may be accompanied by bacterial overgrowth in the digestive tract.  [1.]

Fructose Intolerance Breath Test

The Fructose Intolerance Breath Test targets issues related to the absorption of fructose, a common sweetener found in many foods. In patients with fructose malabsorption, excessive fructose in the intestine can lead to symptoms similar to those of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) such as abdominal pain and altered bowel habits.

Fructose malabsorption occurs when the small intestine is unable to properly absorb fructose due to deficiencies in fructose transporters or enzyme activity. As a result, unabsorbed fructose reaches the colon where it is fermented by gut bacteria, leading to the production of gasses such as hydrogen and methane, which can be detected in breath testing.

This test is vital for distinguishing fructose intolerance from other digestive disorders, thereby facilitating more targeted dietary guidelines.

Sucrose Intolerance Breath Test

The Sucrose Intolerance Breath Test is used to detect deficiencies in the enzyme sucrase, which is necessary for the proper breakdown of sucrose (table sugar).

Sucrase acts at the intestinal lining, breaking down sucrose molecules into their component sugars fructose and glucose.  Decreased sucrase activity causes sucrose malabsorption symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, and gas in the presence of sucrose-containing foods.

Through this test, Aerodiagnostics LLC provides essential data that can lead to the diagnosis of this condition, helping patients to avoid foods that could trigger their symptoms.
