About the Lab

Cell Science Systems offers functional medicine tests such as the ALCAT Test that provide guidance for the ultimate personalization of diet based on scientific diagnostics.

Cell Science Systems is dedicated to personalizing health care through lab tests aimed at preventing chronic disease.

About Cell Science Systems

Cell Science Systems is a specialty laboratory focused on immunology and cell biology assessment, initiated in 2004, located in Deerfield Beach, Florida, with a second location in Potsdam, Germany.

Research and development at Cell Science Systems focus on understanding food's role in health and the ongoing development and improvement of diagnostic testing technologies and processes.

Today, Cell Science Systems Corp. is a specialty clinical laboratory that specializes in immunology and cell biology to support the personalized treatment and prevention of chronic disease.

Operating as a CLIA certified laboratory and FDA-inspected cGMP medical device manufacturer, their goal is to assist healthcare providers in delivering high-quality medical care by providing comprehensive testing results that offer insights into a patient’s health condition.

Cell Science Systems diagnostic testing and research and development are supported by researchers and advisors in healthcare focused on areas such as immunology, emergency care, nutrition, and integrative and functional medicine.

Their lab processes are highly automated, using a customized laboratory information system that aligns each patient's data with a unique barcode for secure tracking and validation. All patient samples are managed with strict protocols to guarantee their viability and traceability throughout testing.

Testing is highly specific to each patient, starting with a preliminary test to determine cell count and distribution, followed by the isolation of white blood cells and plasma for exposure to test substances. Robotic systems ensure precise handling with an error factor of less than 1%.

Controls establish baseline cellular distribution, with subsequent analyses comparing these to the test-induced changes to identify any cellular reactions, indicating the potential impact of the substance on the patient. Yale School of Medicine research supports this methodology, showing that identified cellular changes during the Alcat Test are significant for understanding immune responses.

Popular Tests Offered by Cell Science Systems

Their laboratory services include:

Alcat Testing

Alcat Testing helps healthcare providers improve patient health through dietary and lifestyle adjustments by identifying foods and environmental substances that trigger unwanted symptoms.

The Alcat Test is a diagnostic tool to help manage conditions associated with chronic inflammation and immune system activation.

This test evaluates how individual cells respond to various foods and substances, identifying potential triggers for symptoms like migraines, joint pain, fatigue, and gastrointestinal issues.

Clinical studies using the Alcat Test to inform dietary changes have consistently shown significant symptom improvement. The test's effectiveness is supported by extensive research, including rigorous double-blind and placebo-controlled trials.

Alcat testing is available to test immune responses to 40, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 different potential allergens.  It also offers a Platinum Comprehensive test which assesses immune responses to 320 potential allergens, and a Platinum Plus test which assesses responses to 370 potential allergens.

Alcat testing is available to assess 150 and 200 potential allergens for vegetarians individuals.

Additionally, various add-on Alcat panels are available to assess immune responses to potential allergens including herbs, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory therapies,

CICA (Celiac, IBS, and Crohn's Array)

These test for gluten sensitivities and other gastrointestinal issues.

Key Components of the CICA Test include:

Genetic Testing:

  • Identifies HLA-DQ2.5 and/or HLA-DQ8 genotypes, which are present in over 95% of celiac disease patients.
  • Examines genetic factors linked to Crohn’s disease, such as NOD2/CARD15 associated with immune response regulation and the T300A mutation in the ATG16L1 gene related to autophagy.

Serologic/Antibody Testing:

  • Measures tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG-IgA & IgG) to detect active celiac disease.
  • Assesses Deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) antibodies (IgA & IgG) as additional indicators of celiac disease.
  • Tests for Anti-Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Antibody (ASCA), indicative of Crohn’s disease and increased intestinal inflammation.
  • Evaluates Total Serum IgA to identify potential immunologic deficiencies that could lead to false negatives in celiac testing.

Cellular Testing (Optional):

  • The Alcat Test determines innate immune cell responses to foods and chemicals, providing a comprehensive analysis when combined with the CICA test.

MethylDetox

The MethylDetox test is used to assess a patient’s homocysteine levels and methylation status to aid in understanding their detoxification capacity.  It focuses on the following components:

MTHFR (Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase): tests for SNPs in the MTHFR gene.  This impacts the body’s ability to process homocysteine, with significant implications for cardiovascular health and methylation.

MTR (5-methyltetrahydrofolate-homocysteine methyltransferase): analyzes the MTR gene, which is crucial for converting homocysteine to methionine using 5-MTHF and vitamin B12.

MTRR (Methionine synthase reductase): focuses on the MTRR gene, supporting the activity of the MTR enzyme in methylation and influencing homocysteine metabolism and DNA health.

COMT (Catechol-O-Methyltransferase): evaluates SNPs in the COMT gene, which is crucial for neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification, and various metabolic processes.

AHCY (S-Adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase): assesses the AHCY gene, vital for converting S-adenosylhomocysteine back to homocysteine.

Homocysteine Levels: monitors homocysteine levels to gauge the effectiveness of personalized therapies or supplementation in improving methylation.

Telomere Testing

Provides early indications of chronic disease risk through telomere length analysis.

Telomere testing provides early warnings of disease by measuring the length of telomeres, DNA segments at the ends of chromosomes that protect genetic data and buffer cells during replication.

As cells divide telomeres naturally shorten, but factors like oxidation, inflammation, and stress can accelerate this process, diminishing their protective effect, damaging DNA, and leading to premature cell death. This shortening is linked to aging and various age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and cognitive decline.

Understanding telomere length can reveal cellular aging levels and susceptibility to chronic diseases, encouraging individuals with shortened telomeres to adopt lifestyle changes that could enhance their health and potentially extend longevity.

Strategies to preserve telomere length include reducing inflammation and making healthier lifestyle choices, which may help delay cellular aging and the onset of disease.

Cellular Nutrition Assays

Evaluates cellular nutrient levels, identifies key antioxidants, and measures antioxidative capacity to address nutritional insufficiencies.

While many may consume sufficient calories, they often lack essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants necessary for optimal health.

The Cellular Micronutrient Assay (CMA) offers a comprehensive assessment of micronutrient levels, amino acids, and other nutrients within immune cells. Unlike standard serum tests which provide a temporary snapshot, CMA reflects long-term nutrient status.

This assay is particularly valuable in detecting deficiencies that may contribute to chronic conditions and affect cellular metabolism.

To combat oxidative stress—which can result from exposure to pollutants, toxins, and radiation, and is linked to chronic and degenerative diseases—the Redox Assay and the Antioxidant Protection Assay (APA) evaluate the antioxidant function of immune cells. APA specifically identifies key antioxidants that enhance patients' capacity to fight oxidative damage.

The CMA, Redox Assay and APA are all combined inside the Cellular Nutrition Assay panel.

Results from these tests are presented in an easy-to-understand, color-coded format, indicating nutrient sufficiency, borderline insufficiency, and deficiency. Each report includes detailed explanations of the functions and dietary sources of nutrients found to be insufficient, aiding in targeted nutritional interventions.
