The Islet Cell Antibody Screen test detects the presence of autoantibodies targeting the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It is primarily used for diagnosing autoimmune type 1 diabetes and identifying individuals at risk of developing the disease. This test is also valuable in distinguishing type 1 diabetes from other forms of diabetes, such as type 2 diabetes or latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), and in evaluating autoimmune conditions associated with pancreatic dysfunction.
