Statistics show that approximately 80% of women suffer from hormone imbalance. Although many factors can contribute to hormone imbalance, one that isn’t talked about as frequently is gut dysbiosis. Research indicates that the gut microbiome is able to influence hormone levels through a number of different mechanisms and affect the production and metabolism of hormones. As a result, recognizing the impact that gut microbiota have on hormone balance is critical to helping patients suffering from symptoms of hormone imbalance and hormone-related conditions, including endometriosis and PCOS.
Lisa Pomeroy, ND will discuss how the gut microbiota influence hormone balance, the impact of gut microbial β-glucuronidase on estrogen, gut microbial signatures associated with hormone-related conditions, and what markers to examine on the GI-MAP Test to gain insight into how gut microbes may be affecting hormone balance. She will review the latest research related to this topic and go through a case study.
