About the Test

Ordering the High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) Test with ZRT

The High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) test is more sensitive than the standard CRP test. This is because the high-sensitivity test can detect slight increases within the normal range of standard CRP levels.

Which Patients is the High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) Test Best Used For?

High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) is often ordered in conjunction with other tests that are performed to assess the risk of heart disease, such as a lipid panel to determine the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

The test is not recommended as a routine test. A hsCRP test may be most beneficial for people with a 10- 20% chance of having a heart attack within the next ten years.

The results for the hsCRP test indicate:

  • hs-CRP level of lower than 1.0 mg/L = low risk of CVD
  • hs-CRP level of 1.0 mg/L and 3.0 mg/L = moderate risk of CVD
  • hs-CRP level of more than 3.0 mg/L = high risk of CVD

About the Test

This is a single-marker test measuring hs-CRP. It is used to assess cardiovascular disease risk.
