The RBC Magnesium test is a better way to see how much magnesium your body has compared to other tests that only look at the amount in your blood. This is because most of the magnesium in your body is actually inside cells, like red blood cells.
If Your Levels Are High
Having higher than normal RBC Magnesium levels might mean that your body is taking in and holding onto more magnesium than it usually needs. This can happen if you're consuming a lot of magnesium-rich foods or taking supplements with magnesium in them. Some medications, like certain laxatives or antacids, can also cause an increase in magnesium levels. In some cases, high levels could be a sign of a health issue that affects how your body manages magnesium, such as problems with your kidneys or endocrine system. It's important to remember that while magnesium is crucial for many body functions, having too much can throw off the balance of other minerals in your body.
