Klebsiella pneumoniae

What's
Klebsiella pneumoniae
?
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium found in the environment and in the gut where it does not cause health issues. Klebsiella pneumoniae can cause infections in humans most often when they are sick and receiving treatment for other conditions. Klebsiella pneumoniae can be identified through culture or PCR testing of clinical samples to detect its presence. Detection of this bacteria helps diagnose conditions such as urinary tract infection, sepsis and respiratory illness caused by this organism.
