Autoimmunity Panels 

These panels target over 80 identified autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune conditions often have overlapping symptoms, making accurate diagnosis challenging and typically delayed until symptoms worsen significantly.

Lyme Disease Panels 

Diagnosing Lyme disease is complicated due to symptom overlap with conditions like Alzheimer’s, autism, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and others. The lab combines clinical symptoms with advanced diagnostic techniques to ensure accurate detection.

Viral Infection Panels

Autoimmune Viral Trio Panel

The Autoimmune Viral Trio Panel ocuses on the intersection of viral infections and autoimmune responses. It specifically examines how certain viruses, known to influence immune function, can trigger autoimmune diseases. These include:

  • Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2): the COVID virus can provoke varied immune responses, potentially leading to autoimmune conditions. 
  • Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV): Almost universally acquired, EBV is linked to numerous autoimmune and proliferative disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.

Founder of Immunosciences Lab

Immunosciences Lab was founded by Dr. Aristo Vojdani, a respected academic and researcher, Immunosciences Lab.  

Dr. Vojdani holds positions as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University, an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Health Sciences, and has past affiliations with Charles Drew/UCLA School of Medicine and Science. 

His academic journey includes an MSc and PhD in microbiology and clinical immunology from Bar-Ilan University in Israel, with further postdoctoral studies in immunology at UCLA.

Dr. Vojdani's career, spanning over 45 years, focuses on the impact of environmental triggers on complex diseases. He has developed over 300 antibody assays to detect autoimmune diseases and other conditions, particularly those that link the gut to systemic and neurological disorders. 

Dr. Vojdani holds 17 U.S. patents related to immune dysfunctions associated with the gut and brain, and he has contributed to over 200 scientific publications. His authored books include "Neuroimmunity and the Brain-Gut Connection" and "Food-Associated Autoimmunities: When Food Breaks Your Immune System."

Dr. Vojdani is currently serving as CEO and Technical Director of Immunosciences Lab in Los Angeles.

Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Panel

The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Panel offered by Immunosciences Lab detects antibodies to EBV; however, it is also useful in helping to detect possible autoimmunity because EBV infection is suspected to play a role in the pathogenesis of many systemic autoimmune diseases.  [3., 5.]

Many studies have found increased levels of antibodies against EBV-VCA (Viral Capsid Antigen), Early Antigen (EA), and Epstein Barr Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) in patients with Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjögren’s Syndrome, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Type-1 Diabetes, Celiac Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and more.  [1., 2., 4., 6.]

This induction of autoimmune disorders is mainly due to molecular mimicry or cross-reactivity between EBV antigens and human tissue proteins, which is why EBV has been called an autoimmune virus.

By detecting IgG or IgM antibodies to different EBV antigens, this panel identifies a patient's infection status including past infection, primary reactivation, or re-infection with the Epstein-Barr Virus.

Immunoserology of Lyme Panel B

Immunosciences Lab's Immunoserology of Lyme Panel B is a comprehensive diagnostic tool for detecting Lyme disease and associated co-infections. 

Their patented ELISA method alongside the Western Blot technique are used to meticulously analyze 26 different antibodies against specific antigens related to Lyme disease, Borrelia subspecies, and co-infections.  This enables the detection of both active and chronic stages of Lyme disease which could manifest as Lyme arthritis or neuroborreliosis, often misidentified as multiple sclerosis.

This advanced panel is crucial for accurately diagnosing Lyme disease early on to avoid the detrimental effects of both false positive and false negative results. False positives can lead to unnecessary treatment, while false negatives may result in prolonged suffering from Lyme-related complications like arthritis or neurological disorders.

The Western Blot method integrated into this panel enhances diagnostic accuracy by identifying specific IgG and IgM antibody patterns associated with Borrelia burgdorferi and its peptides. This is crucial for distinguishing Lyme disease from other conditions with similar symptoms such as various autoimmune disorders or inflammatory conditions affecting the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and joints.

B. burgdorferi IgG, IgM by Western Blot

The Borrelia burgdorferi IgG, IgM by Western Blot is used for confirming Lyme disease with high precision. It identifies antibodies against distinct Borrelia peptides in human serum by separating them according to their molecular size, enhancing diagnostic accuracy.  

According to CDC guidelines, a positive IgG blot requires the presence of antibodies in 5 out of 10 specified peptide bands, and a positive IgM blot in 2 out of 3. The presence of these antibodies indicates a reaction to Lyme disease, and their absence suggests a non-reactive status.

This test is particularly valuable for patients who may have been exposed to Lyme disease through tick bites, exhibit symptoms such as fever, joint pain, or neurological disturbances, or have conditions like erythema migrans, various forms of arthritis, or neuroborreliosis. It is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective management of Lyme disease and its symptoms.

Autoimmune Profile - Comprehensive

The Autoimmune Profile Comprehensive panel is designed for early detection and monitoring of approximately 100 different autoimmune disorders, which affect 5-9% of the population. This panel is crucial in identifying pathogenic autoreactive antibodies or reactive T cells at both preclinical and clinical stages, potentially years before active disease onset.

The panel includes tests for Anti-Nuclear Antibody (ANA), Extractable Nuclear Antigen (ENA), Rheumatoid Factor (RF), Double-Stranded DNA (dsDNA), Actin, Mitochondrial Antibodies, and Total C1Q Immune Complexes. 

It is particularly useful for individuals who may not show overt clinical symptoms initially or whose standard screenings might overlook potential autoimmune conditions.

This comprehensive testing is recommended for individuals with:

  • Elevated antibodies against viruses like EBV, CMV, Herpes 1+2, HHV-6, VZV, and Measles
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals or severe reactions to drugs
  • Immune reactivity to specific foods, particularly gluten and dairy
  • Existing autoimmune or neurodegenerative conditions, such as Long COVID or autism spectrum disorders
